Here it is November 1st already! I am wondering--am I the only mom needing to go buy more candy today, to stash away for myself, so that I don't eat all of my son's Halloween candy? Is it just me?
On Saturday, my family participated in Life Walk 2005, a 2 mile family walk to raise funds for Life Perspectives, a local organization that supports educational efforts to raise respect for human life, and provide pregnancy support and alternatives to abortion. We met our goal of $200, thanks to pledges from our friends and family--thank you so much Christie, Kent, Darcy, JC, Shan, Antoinette, Nicki, Dad, and Mom. I am not sure how much was raised, in total, but there was a really good turnout. And we met some really great people.
And finally, today is the official release of my friend Sarah Smiley's first book! She has written a memoir, called Going Overboard, about her experiences during her husband's first deployment as a Naval Officer. I haven't read it yet, I have been chasing down the mailman for the last three days, awaiting the arrival of my copy. I am sure it will be a great read (and Sarah, it better be signed!) Sarah always tells a great story, and she has a weekly syndicated column about life as a military spouse, called Shore Duty, which I read weekly. Check it out! One of her characters in the book is loosely based on me. ( I say loosely, because I haven't read the book yet and might feel weird about reading about someone who is supposed to be me.) Go buy a copy at Amazon, and after you've read it, let me know which one you think I am. The names have been changed . . . to protect the innocent?
